Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation is reportedly launching two English-language satellite TV channels in the Middle East.
News Corp is planning a film channel, potentially called Fox Movies, and a drama channel, according to US entertainment paper Variety.
The free-to-air satellite channels are to be launched later this year in partnership with Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, the Saudi billionaire who has a 5% stake in News Corp.
Prince Alwaleed's company Rotana would handle regional sales for the ad-funded, free-to-air channels. The channels themselves will be owned by News Corp, with ad revenues shared between the partners.
The deal was said to have been clinched by Rupert Murdoch's son James, the chairman of UK satellite broadcaster BSkyB, in which News Corp is the largest shareholder, and since December the chairman and chief executive of the company's businesses in Europe and Asia.
Prince Alwaleed has been a staunch supporter of the Murdoch family in recent years. In 2005, when Murdoch was facing pressure from rival mogul John Malone, the prince upped his stake and gave the News Corp boss a public vote of confidence.
Later that year it emerged he had personally asked Murdoch to stop the Fox News channel using the term "Muslim riots" to describe civil unrest in France.
The prince ranked by Forbes magazine earlier this month as the 19th richest man in the world - also has stakes in two other US media giants, Time Warner and Disney.
Rotana owns seven TV channels, a music label and a film production business.
